For General Plan Map (pdf file)

COMMERCIAL

  • Re-design central Holladay business area
  • Re-design Holladay Blvd, 23rd East, 48th So intersections
  • Pedestrian-scaled, pedestrian friendly
  • Control of architecture and landscaping
  • Village-like central Holladay-charming, quaint, pedestrian friendly
  • More greenspace and landscaping in commercial areas
  • Height restrictions
  • Avoid strip-mall look
  • Save historic homes and buildings---use for offices rather than tear down
  • Stop creeping of commercial areas
  • Strengthen existing commercial areas
  • Strong sign control, especially in central Holladay business area
  • Prevent light pollution from parking lots, signs, etc. into residential areas

RESIDENTIAL

  • Keep large lots, require larger set-backs from roads
  • Control size of house "footprint" to size of lot
  • Protect trees
  • Stop high-density creep
  • Preserve historic buildings
  • Better traffic control on "cut-through" streets
  • Possibly mix apartments/condos into commercial---but not vice versa
  • Most residents approve of mother-in-law apartments
  • Maintain animal zoning (horses, etc. in areas where they've been historically)

TRANSPORTATION

  • Fix the intersections at 48th South, 23rd East, Holladay Boulevard
  • Make parking areas less conspicuous with plantings, placement behind buildings
  • Slow traffic everywhere
  • More tree-bordered streets
  • Sidewalks on busy streets-especially Holladay Blvd, 48th South
  • Biking, jogging, and walking trails along roads, canals, etc.
  • Public transportation improvements-perhaps shuttle from peripheral areas to city center
  • More trees---less cars
  • Natural barriers (planting areas) to slow traffic
  • North-bound off-ramp from I-215 at 45th South to take traffic from Holladay Blvd
  • Get rid of --- or at least slow --- "cut-through" traffic
  • Consider one-way streets, some street closures
  • Keep sidewalks from being blocked by snowplows piling up snow there

PARKS AND OPEN SPACES

  • Preserve undeveloped land
  • Walkways, bike trails (again)
  • Protect trees
  • Limit signs
  • Natural environment parks, including dog-friendly parks
  • Consider park near Old Mill Golf Course to tie into Bonneville Trail
  • Use creeks and canals for trails---but must preserve private property rights
  • Add trees along streets for beauty and safety
  • Pocket parks around city rather than one large park
  • Balance benefits from parks with problems---vandalism and light pollution
